Rose's Profile

My name is Rose. I was born in 1937 at 7 Edrom Street Shettleston. I was 3 when my father went to war and my Mother went out to work. I stayed with my Granny during the war and when the war was over my Dad came home and we again lived in Edrom Street. A year later my Sister was born and there we lived until I was 13 years old. The flat was a single end. This was a one room in which we slept, washed, cooked, everything was done in this small space there was not much space. We had cold water gas light and a gas ring to cook with. The toilet was on the landing and was shared with another two families.

We moved to 681 Shettleston road. This was a big improvement we actually had a room and kitchen. Again we had an outside toilet.

This was my home until I married in 1956. Robert and I bought a house at 58 Budhill Ave. This was real luxury - we had a room and kitchen with a BATHROOM! We lived there happily until 1962 when we bought a bigger house in Denbrae Street. I still live here, so I have spent all my life living in Shettleston.
